All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in a series of virtual and in-person programs throughout the month of February in observance and celebration of Black History Month. This year’s theme is “Black Health and Wellness: UC San Diego Honors Medical Pioneers and Community Healers.”
Numerous events will be held, including UC San Diego’s 20th Annual Black History Month Celebration and Scholarship Awards Ceremony. This virtual celebration will feature a keynote speech from Dr. Rodney Hood, UC San Diego School of Medicine alumnus, president of the Multicultural Health Foundation and co-founder of the Covid19 Equity Task Force in San Diego; as well as recognition of student scholars at UC San Diego.
In recognition of this annual event, two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego Black History Month activity. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
On behalf of the campus community, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the members of the UC San Diego Black History Month Planning Committee for their work to coordinate these educational and celebratory campus activities.
