Framework Apartments Available for UC San Diego Employees

For many years, regional housing production has not kept pace with population growth and housing demand, creating critically low vacancy rates. Some faculty and staff experience great challenges securing housing, particularly in neighborhoods with access to public transit options that connect to the La Jolla and Hillcrest campuses.

For that reason, UC San Diego is planning transit-oriented rental housing, prioritized for UC San Diego and UC San Diego Health faculty and staff. This housing will span a wide range of rental rates based on apartment sizes, amenities and locations. Rates are set to cover costs, which means that rent will be at the lower end of market rates for these types of units.

The University has closed on a newly-constructed apartment community, Framework, located in downtown San Diego. Framework offers 87 small studio rental units, two blocks from UC San Diego Park & Market. The property is also located two blocks from a UC San Diego Blue Line trolley station that provides direct access to the La Jolla campus, and one block from a bus stop with several lines that provide easy bus access to the Hillcrest Medical Center campus.

The apartments range from 317 square feet to 502 square feet in size, with starting monthly rents ranging from $1,975 per month to $2,675 per month. Each unit is fully-furnished and features floor-to-ceiling windows, a stacked washer/dryer and a large walk-in shower. The apartments are also equipped with innovative space saving features, such as a queen-size Murphy bed/sofa system, hinge-down multi-purpose desk and an automated pocket walk-in closet system. Framework features a fitness center for residents, a café-style co-working space, high-speed wifi, keyless entry and a rooftop community lounge with an outdoor terrace. Construction on a nearby downtown urban park, East Village Green, also recently commenced.

We encourage you to visit https://framework.ucsd.edu to learn more about the apartments, community amenities and to register your interest. If demand exceeds availability, a lottery system will be used after a first application period.

We value the survey feedback received from many of you in June and will continue to share updates as we consider innovative housing solutions in the future.
