The Committee on Senate Awards invites nominations for the 2022-23 Donald F. Tuzin Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes faculty members who have engaged in extraordinary service in the following two categories:
- Faculty members who have shown exceptional leadership by serving the university in a distinguished manner that reflects a deep commitment to shared governance, and to the excellence of the University of California. This might entail service on systemwide or San Diego Divisional Senate or departmental committees, the development of new programs and initiatives, etc.
- Faculty who have engaged in exemplary service with a significant public impact, beyond the UC San Diego campus. Here we seek to recognize those faculty who have taken their work out of the lab, classroom and seminar room in a manner that positively impacts the broader community.
Each year, the Academic Senate will select two Academic Senate members to receive this prestigious award — one from the Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences, and one from the Sciences or Engineering. Nominations must be accompanied by a letter that describes the nominee’s service contributions and how they have contributed to the well-being and academic excellence of the UC San Diego campus, or the broader public. Each recipient will be honored and receive a $1,500 award.
The Committee on Senate Awards is charged with recommending the award recipients to the Representative Assembly. Nomination due date: November 18, 2022. Send to the Committee on Senate Awards via email to Darlene Salmon at desalmon@ucsd.edu. If you have questions, please contact Darlene Salmon at desalmon@ucsd.edu.
