Important Information Regarding This Year's Flu Vaccine Mandate for Employees

UC San Diego is committed to the health and safety of all. The most important measure to prevent flu infection is an annual flu vaccination, and it is even more important when respiratory viruses are common in the community. Similar to the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection such as wearing a face covering, getting an annual flu vaccination helps stop the spread of influenza, in addition to protecting you and your community.

The University of California has issued a Policy on Vaccination Programs requiring all students, faculty, other academic appointees, and staff who are living, learning, or working on premises at any University facility to (i) receive Vaccine Education concerning influenza and vaccination as a preventive measure; and (ii) receive or affirmatively decline influenza vaccination. The Compliance date for UC San Diego, is Friday, Nov. 18, 2022.

Employees are encouraged to get the flu shot through their primary care provider or through a local pharmacy. In addition, our goal is to offer a free flu vaccine to faculty, other academic appointees, and staff who need access to it through our partnership with UC San Diego Health. Employee convenience is at the forefront of our flu prevention campaign. This includes expanding access and offering the following convenient options:

EMPLOYEE FLU VACCINATION
You can self-schedule a flu vaccine appointment at a UC San Diego Health location at flu.ucsd.edu. Vaccinations will be administered by appointment only and are free for all employees.

Flu vaccination outside UC San Diego Health
Many local pharmacies and clinics offer free flu shots. You may also visit your primary care provider to receive your flu vaccine. For many employees working hybrid or remotely, this may be the easiest and most convenient option.

Student Employees
Student employees should follow the student process for obtaining a flu vaccination. There is no cost for the flu vaccine for students. To find an appointment, students should go to MyStudentChart to find an appointment, or they can indicate they received an influenza vaccine outside of UCSD by going to “preventative care” from the menu or main page of the MyStudentChart site.

SUBMIT YOUR ATTESTATION OR DECLINATION

You should submit your attestation or declination of the influenza vaccine through the Flu Vaccination Attestation or Declination form (English)/(Spanish) no later than Nov. 18, 2022. You must sign in with your AD login. This form is available in English and Spanish.
