The VCHS oversees the comprehensive operations that comprise UC San Diego Health Sciences. The VCHS, in consultation with the Chancellor, sets the overall vision and strategy of the Health Sciences’ tripartite mission of excellence in education, research and clinical care, with an emphasis on building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive academic and clinical community.
The VCHS must have broad and diverse leadership skills to manage a highly complex organization. The VCHS will work in partnership with the Chancellor’s Cabinet (CEO for UC San Diego Health also sits on the Chancellor’s Cabinet) and leadership team. The VCHS also must collaborate in close partnership with the leadership of the Health Sciences units, which include School of Medicine, Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; senior campus administrators; the University of California Regents; the Office of the President; and key external constituencies, including the Veterans Administration San Diego Healthcare System, Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and a diverse set of research institutions that surround the UC San Diego campus.
The Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences working with the leadership team at UC San Diego Health is responsible for the management and growth of a world class health system that delivers the best patient care and is a destination for care locally, nationally and internationally. The overall management of a financially sound and innovative health delivery enterprise is a key responsibility.
Through a series of listening sessions with various constituencies on campus, the search firm will develop a comprehensive position profile that includes challenges and opportunities for the next VCHS. The Search Advisory Committee will begin reviewing candidates soon after the position profile is developed and will continue until the position is filled.
Direct inquiries and nominations should be emailed to David Bellshaw, Partner at Isaacson, Miller at UCSDVCHS@imsearch.com. You need not contact the nominee to ascertain if they are willing to be considered as a candidate. All nominees will be contacted in confidence by the search firm, to discuss their willingness to have their names put forward to the search advisory committee.
