The alarming news of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week has impacted many in our UC San Diego community, especially those with close ties, family or friends who are directly affected by the escalating violence and chaos in Eastern Europe. We are deeply saddened by this crisis and offer our support to those suffering from extraordinary stress and concern for their loved ones. Our hearts go out especially to those experiencing a profound sense of loss.
We are actively reaching out to our U.S.-based Eastern European students, faculty, staff, scholars, and researchers with information and resources to help address the immediate and longer-term impacts of this situation as it continues to unfold. Our International Students and Programs Office is working to ensure that support is in place, and my leadership team is conducting direct outreach to affected faculty and staff.
It is during challenging times that our entire Triton community consistently demonstrates its resilience and commitment to one another. I encourage everyone to extend compassion and support to each other during this difficult time.
We understand that events of this nature can affect everyone in different ways. If you feel impacted by this and other events, or if you are experiencing feelings of anxiety or grief, I urge you to take advantage of the many resources we have available to help.
