Request for Proposals: Global Seminars Summer 2023 - Faculty-Led Study Abroad & Study Away Programs | |
We are pleased to announce the call for Summer 2023 Global Seminars. The Global Seminar program offers the opportunity to teach two four-unit courses in an international or US location during a five-week summer session, with the benefit of full logistical support through Study Abroad, UC San Diego. According to Academic Senate policy, voting members of the UC San Diego Academic Senate, including ladder rank faculty, teaching professor series faculty, as well as Continuing Unit 18 Lecturers with eighteen quarters of teaching experience at UC San Diego, are eligible to teach Global Seminars.
Over one hundred seminars have been taught abroad by UC San Diego faculty since the Global Seminars program began in Summer 2008. Planning is well underway for up to 22 Global Seminars in seventeen cities during Summer 2022 (Amsterdam, Athens, Bali, Berlin, Bern, Cape Town, Dublin, Edinburgh, Granada, London, Ostional, Paris, Quito, Rome, San Juan, Santa Cruz, Vienna, and Wellington). Of course, safety is our highest priority. Global Education is carefully monitoring the pandemic situation and will cancel seminars if it is deemed unsafe to proceed. Visit this web page to learn more about current Global Seminar offerings for Summer 2022.
Study Abroad UC San Diego hopes to offer another compelling selection of seminars in Summer 2023. Detailed program information and an application may be found in the “Teach a Global Seminar” section at the Study Abroad UC San Diego website. Click on the PDF links in the body of the web site to access the RFP and other documents.
Together with the Faculty Co-Directors of Study Abroad UC San Diego, Ivano Caponigro, Matthew Herbst, and Jan Kleissl and Interim Faculty Director of Global Education Robert T. “Chip” Schooley, we invite you to submit a proposal to lead a Global Seminar in Summer 2023.
A committee will review proposals with an aim to offer students a range of destinations, disciplines, and costs. Proposals received by Apr. 15, 2022 will be considered for the Summer 2023 program.
Information sessions about these faculty-led Global Seminar programs will be offered in the coming weeks. Speakers will include faculty who have previously taught Global Seminars and Jim Galvin, Director of Program Development. These sessions will take place on Thursday, Feb. 17 from 4-5:00 pm led by Co-Director Matthew Herbst, Monday, Feb. 28 from 4-5:00 pm led by Professors Mirle Rabinowitz-Bussell and Sue Peerson, and Thursday, Mar. 3 from 4-5:00 pm led by Provost Ivan Evans. The sessions will be accessible via the following shared zoom link: https://ucsd.zoom.us/j/95628557741.
