CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Hillcrest Outpatient Pavilion and Parking – Bachman Place Road Closure

Project Purpose At the end of 2021, construction began on an approximately 10-acre site on the UC San Diego Hillcrest campus. This marked the first phase of a multi-phase plan to redevelop the full 60-acre medical campus, providing new facilities, new technology, increased capacity, expanded care offerings, workforce housing and other community services and amenities.
Immediate Parking, Street Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts From Monday, April 4, 2022 to mid-2024, Bachman Place will be closed to all through traffic for vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles between Hotel Circle South and Montecito Way. The full road closure is needed as the campus continues the first major phase of construction at the southeast portion of the Hillcrest campus by building the new parking structure. During the closure, access to the Bachman parking structure will be maintained for UC San Diego staff by traveling south on Bachman Place from Hotel Circle South (noting access from the south will not be available).
Please reference this map of the affected area.
Routes for parking facilities:

- During the closure, access to the Bachman parking structure will be maintained, from the north only, for UC San Diego staff by traveling south on Bachman Place from Hotel Circle South (noting access from the south will not be available).
- Access to the Arbor parking structure and Montecito surface lot will be from the south only, e.g., via Washington St.

Optional parking facilities and transit with access via UC San Diego free Hillcrest Express shuttle service:

- The Old Town Transit Center provides free parking and is served by a host of transit options, including the UC San Diego Blue Line trolley, the Green Line trolley, COASTER regional rail and bus MTS routes; free staff trial for transit is available. With transfers to the Hillcrest Express, all of these are now credible commute options for the Hillcrest campus.

Alternate routes for vehicles accessing UC San Diego Health Hillcrest facilities:
Please plan for additional travel time during the road closure. A five-minute delay is expected using the following alternative routes.

- From I-5 South, continue on I-5 southbound and take the Washington St. East exit
- From SR-163 South, continue on SR-163 southbound and take the Washington St. West exit
- From I-8 East, take I-5 South to the Washington St. East exit
- From I-8 West, take SR-163 South to the Washington St. West exit

Alternative routes for bicyclists and pedestrians include the following MTS routes.

- For access to Hillcrest from Mission Valley, please take MTS Bus Route 1 (Fashion Valley-La Mesa), which runs every 15-30 minutes M-F from 5:03 a.m. to 11:16 p.m.
- For access to Mission Valley from Hillcrest, please take MTS Bus Route 1 (Fashion Valley-La Mesa), which runs every 15-30 minutes M-F from 5:12 a.m. to 12:14 p.m.
