Clarification Regarding Research Work Arrangements
As we begin the spring quarter, some may have questions about in-person versus remote work arrangements for research staff, graduate student researchers, and postdoctoral scholars.
Prior guidance prohibiting in-person work requirements was specific to earlier phases of the pandemic. As the campus returns to more in-person and on-site activities, supervisors may now determine work arrangements, including asking research staff, graduate student researchers, and postdoctoral scholars to be on-site and in-person. We also note that the UC Office of the President program allowing international remote work agreements expired on December 31, 2021 and is no longer available. We encourage research staff, graduate student researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and supervisors to proactively communicate with one another to understand work expectations.
As per university policy, those who require accommodation can consult with the Office for Students with Disabilities (for students) or the Office of Disability Counseling and Consulting (for faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and staff). In the case of Health Sciences employees, they should contact Health HR at 619-543-3200 Option 6 or open a Workplace Accommodation case on hhr.ucsd.edu.
Please refer to the recently announced update to the campus masking policy, as announced April 5, 2022 by the Chancellor. Anyone required to be on site can wear a mask if they prefer to do so, including in facilities where masks are optional.
