The continued improvement of public health on campus and throughout San Diego County has provided another opportunity to modify a portion of our campus safety protocols. In consultation with our campus and health system experts, I am pleased to announce the following change to our campus safety protocols, effective immediately.
Masking is now optional and visitation restrictions have been lifted in university-owned housing. Masking in common areas in all other non-clinical campus buildings remains optional as well, but masking will remain required in all indoor classroom/instructional settings, clinical areas and on public and Triton/university transportation until further notice.
We will continue to monitor public health and make adjustments to campus safety protocols as necessary.
Testing and Symptom Screening Reminders
Students and employees who are not vaccinated or are not up-to-date on their vaccination status must continue to test two times per week, between three and five days apart. Routine asymptomatic testing for students or employees who are up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccination status is not required but remains available to those who would like to test.
All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, who develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should test immediately.
Individuals should also test if they are residing or working in buildings with positive wastewater signals. See “Potential Exposure Locations” on the Return to Learn dashboard for the latest information.
UC San Diego requires everyone residing in or coming to a UC San Diego location for any reason to complete a daily symptom self-screening for COVID-19.
Vaccine Booster Update
The Food and Drug Administration has authorized and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended an additional booster of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for eligible individuals age 50 and older and those who are immunocompromised. To be eligible, recipients must have received their last dose more than four months ago. At this time, the additional booster is not required to remain compliant with the UC Vaccine Mandate.
Booster appointments are available on campus at the Price Center and at the La Jolla Medical Center’s drive-up location. UC San Diego students, faculty and staff can schedule an appointment online. Boosters are also available at pharmacies and through your medical provider.
