Updates from Human Resources | |
Congratulations to our graduates and to everyone who made commencement happen! I had the honor of being invited to and attending the Black Graduation ceremony on Friday evening. It was such a joyous occasion and being a part of their moment made me feel incredibly special. This time of year, more than others, amplifies my connection to the mission. I know that sometimes Staff can forget about their importance to the success of our amazing students, so take the time in your Department, unit, and/or team to remind yourself of the integral part you play in making this a wonderful experience for our students.
Staff Town Hall: Join us for our next Staff Town Hall on Thursday, July 14, 10:00-11:00 a.m., highlighting one of the Staff Association Affiliate Groups, and featuring updates on campus health and safety guidelines, as well as information from Campus HR about our HR Renewal efforts and our goals to make your employment experience more valuable and easier to navigate. Register and submit your questions.
Juneteenth Holiday: A reminder that we will observe Juneteenth as a paid UC holiday next Monday, June 20th. We encourage you to take time to reflect on the significance this holiday represents and the enduring impact of our nation’s history of slavery. As President Drake said last year, “[l]et us resolve to build a future representing and lifted up by our ideals, our values, and our best selves.” For employees who work in 24-hour operations, please consult with your supervisor regarding how this holiday impacts your schedule, if at all.
News and Resources
Updates on 2022-2023 Salary Increase for Policy-Covered Staff: Salary Program details are now available for the 4.5% general salary increase for policy-covered (non-represented) employees announced by Chancellor Pradeep Khosla last month. See 2022-2023 Salary Program Guidelines on Blink for more information. Represented staff increases are governed by their appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Caregiver Resources Are you a caregiver or do you know a UC San Diego colleague with caregiving responsibilities? The UC and UC San Diego offer a number of resources to support caregiver needs. Get details about resources to help you manage.
Update your Personal Email Address in UCPath: A reminder to log in to UCPath to ensure your personal email address has been entered and is correct (employee actions > personal information > email addresses). The UCPath center utilizes the personal email address for any communication or inquiries that are specific to employees. This includes actions such as enrollment confirmation and notification of document availability such as W-2s and special payment advisories.

On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines
Vacation Maximum Accrual Extension Ending: Starting July 1, 2022, policy-covered staff who are over their maximum vacation leave accrual limit will no longer accrue additional vacation leave until they bring their vacation leave balance below their maximum. This change applies to policy-covered staff employees. Read the UC Net article describing the change. This is an excellent opportunity to take a moment to care for yourself and plan your vacation. It is important to take time away to refresh your mind and do something that brings you joy, even if that involves staying locally. Supervisors, work with your team so that your staff that takes time away does not come back to the dreaded “vacation email punishment.” The worst thing after a refreshing vacation is to be immediately overloaded with overdue work items because no one assisted with a plan while you were out.
Donate vacation hours to the Catastrophic Leave bank: If you are nearing, but not yet at your vacation accrual maximum, or if you’re just feeling inspired to support your colleagues, please consider donating some of your vacation hours to the Catastrophic Leave bank. It could make a world of difference in the life of a Triton colleague. We encourage you to both donate and take vacation time yourself if you have enough hours available. Note, if you are already overmax, at this time you cannot donate.
Work Location Status Form: All UC San Diego employees, including campus and Health, are required to complete and submit the Work Location Status Form, providing information about your work schedule and location. It’s important for UC San Diego to maintain an accurate database of this information in support of space planning, regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness. Learn more and find step-by-step instructions on Blink.
