Timely Warning – Intimidation - Sexual Orientation Bias

On 06/16/2022 at 11:28pm, the UC San Diego Police Department received a report of an Intimidation - Sexuality Orientation Bias, that occurred at UCSD Hillcrest Hospital on 06/13/2022 at 3:10pm. The reporting party stated that a person left multiple notes in their work space threatening their person and made derogatory comments toward their sexual orientation. The reporting party stated their co-worker received similar intimidation in a previous incident. 
  • There is no suspect information at this time.
  • At this time, the suspect is not in custody.

The remainder of this message provides general information about preventing and reporting a hate crime and intimidation and is not necessarily related to this incident.

What to do if you are the victim or a witness of intimidation:
  • Seek medical attention if needed.
  • Call the UC San Diego Police Department immediately at 9-1-1.
  • Write down the exact words that were spoken or any other information that might be of value.
  • Do not disturb any evidence until law enforcement arrives.
  • If possible, get names, addresses and phone numbers of other victims and witnesses.
  • If possible, get a description of the suspect(s) and their vehicle, if applicable.
  • In addition to calling the police, report a bias incident to the UC San Diego Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination at https://reportbias.ucsd.edu.   
  • Consider contacting confidential campus support resources:
  • UC San Diego students – visit Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and (858) 534-3755.
  • UC San Diego faculty or staff – visit Faculty & Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) and (858) 534-5523.
  • UC San Diego Health Sciences benefits-eligible faculty and staff – visit Liveandworkwell operated by Optum/United Behavioral Health and (866) 808-6205 (use company code UCSDMC).
General Safety Considerations:
  • Report suspicious activity immediately to the UC San Diego Police Department by calling 9-1-1.
  • If you feel unsafe, consider using the UC San Diego Safety Escort Call (858) 534-WALK, available daily from dusk to dawn.
  • Know the location of Campus Emergency Telephones on routes to and from campus destination
