Community Alert Bulletin – Aggravated Assault *** UPDATE ***

The following is updated information from the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) regarding an aggravated assault that occurred on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, between approximately 4:50 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., on the sand near Kellogg Park, La Jolla Shores, 8300 Camino Del Oro, La Jolla, CA, 92037.

The 59-year-old female victim, who is not affiliated with UC San Diego, was attacked from behind by an unknown male suspect.  The victim said the male tackled her from behind and “grappled” with her using rudimentary MMA or wrestling-style holds and pain techniques.  The victim was able to bite the suspect’s fingers and strike him one time in the face with her cane.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 25-40 years old, approximately 5’-07”, with a muscular build, short dark-colored hair that stuck out from his head.  He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and leather fingerless gloves.  The victim said the male had an “unusual accent” that she could not place.  A person matching the physical and clothing description was seen near the SIO Pier before the attack.

The suspect will likely have injuries to his fingers (bite marks, lacerations) and/or to his face/forehead (minor abrasion/laceration/bruise).
  • At this time, the suspect is not in custody.
  • The report is currently under investigation by the San Diego Police Department.
If you have information that could be helpful in this investigation, please call the San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2000.
