Annual Staff Summer Celebration

The UC San Diego Staff Association and I are pleased to invite you to this year’s Annual Staff Summer Celebration on Friday, August 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Town Square. This annual event celebrates our passionate, talented and dedicated staff who help create and nurture a diverse, inclusive and collaborative community like “non” other.

And this year, at the close of our historic 10-year Campaign for UC San Diego, we recognize the many contributions of staff’s time, talent and treasure that have helped us achieve our impressive $3-billion fundraising milestone. And we celebrate the many new facilities, programs and amenities that help us engage more effectively with each other, our students, our patients and the greater San Diego community — all made possible by the Campaign.

UC San Diego was founded by people who were unafraid to explore nontraditional and nonconventional paths to new discoveries. A unique work culture blossomed, and innovation followed in nearly every area of campus and health. Staff like “non” other think outside the norm in order to find better solutions to big challenges and everyday issues. Just like our scholars, your work makes UC San Diego truly distinctive.

This year’s Staff Summer Celebration will feature booths, giveaways and entertainment provided by DecaDames, with a tribute to female singers throughout the decades. Two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for staff to attend the Staff Summer Celebration. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

Lunch Tickets
To prevent food waste, lunch will be provided only to staff members who reserve a lunch online and download a lunch e-ticket to their mobile device. Tickets will be available beginning at noon on Monday, August 1. Be sure to reserve your ticket prior to August 8 as quantities are limited and typically “sell out” the day they become available. Parking & Shuttle Service
We encourage main campus staff to walk or use campus shuttles. Special parking accommodations will be available for any off-campus staff in the Hopkins parking structure. Parking in “S”, “V”, and “B” spaces will be allowed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, August 19 only (excludes main campus groups). Cart service will be available at the Hopkins parking structure for those who need additional assistance.

The Medical Center, Mesa Nueva, North Campus, SIO, South Campus and West Campus Connector shuttles will be running during the summer sessions. Visit the transportation website for details.

Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to support the Staff Summer Celebration. All individuals volunteering with the Staff Association will receive a lunch e-ticket and a special volunteer gift as a thank you for your time. For more information and to sign up, visit the volunteer sign-up form.
