The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat WARNING for most of San Diego County until 8 p.m. Monday, September 5, 2022. Temperatures are expected to range from the 90s near the beaches to the low 100s further inland.
An Excessive Heat Warning means that a period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur, during which heat illnesses are likely. This Excessive Heat Warning is the highest level notification from the National Weather Service and surpasses Excessive Heat Watches, Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Outlooks.
How to stay safe
During this time, please take action to protect yourself from heat-related illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, try to stay in an air conditioned and a well-ventilated space, limit your time in the sun, avoid strenuous activities, and check on friends, relatives and neighbors. Please consider using one of San Diego County’s “Cool Zones” (info below) if air conditioning is not available at home. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances since a car’s interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Campus residents or employees without mechanical cooling provided for their indoor spaces should be aware of locations that offer air-conditioned spaces to cool off. Some locations that may be available include (check specific hours of operation):
