REVISED CONSTRUCTION ALERT: Construction Trailer Establishment and Thornton Hospital / Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion Valet Parking Modifications
*We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused by the misidentification of the Drop Off/valet area and hope that this REVISED Construction Alert will clarify the location.*
Project Purpose:
Anticipated to open in 2025, the Viterbi Family Vision Research Center will focus on ophthalmologic diseases and interdisciplinary collaborations. Preliminary work on the project site is anticipated to begin in January 2023. This make-ready work includes establishing construction trailers and constructing a new segment of roadway and sidewalk. This roadway will be adjacent to the Thornton Hospital / Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion drop-off loop and will allow for better traffic flow for valet parking operations once the full construction site is established in the Spring of 2023. 

Location and Duration:
  • Construction trailers will be established in the landscaped area between parking lots P707 and P760 in mid-January 2023 and will remain in place until project completion targeted for January 2025.
  • A construction fence will be established adjacent to Thornton Hospital / Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion drop-off loop in parking lot P751 to construct the new roadway segment. This work is anticipated to start in January 2023 and finish in March 2023. 
Immediate Effects: Parking Lot, Street Traffic and Pedestrians
  • Construction Trailers:
  • The construction trailer area will be established in parking lot P707 occupying the southernmost row of parking. The area will be secured by fencing. 
  • Aside from the fenced area of parking lot P707, vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic will not be impacted once the trailers are established.
  • Valet Parking:
  • A fence will be established around the project work area in valet parking lot P751, resulting in minor pedestrian detours around the project work area. The turnaround area at the south end of the Medical Center Drive and Campus Point Drive intersection will be coned off and used by the valet operation.
  • Vehicular traffic for patients and staff will not be impacted aside from minor shoulder impacts towards the end of this work’s duration.
For everyone's safety, please adhere to traffic control signage directions and flag persons' instructions while traveling through the area.
