Winter 2023 Events with the Senate Chair & Vice Chair
Dear Colleagues,

The Academic Senate is the key to representing Senate faculty in the shared governance of the University.

Vice Chair John Hildebrand and I are here to represent the Senate faculty, like you, on issues of importance to faculty. There have been unprecedented challenges in the last few years, and we would like to offer more ways to connect and hear about the topics that are of most interest to you during Winter Quarter. We invite you to participate in informal monthly lunches at the Faculty Club and a series of discussion forums, as opportunities to engage directly with Senate faculty and share information. We hope you will join us for at least one of these events. More details are below.
  1. Monthly lunches at the Faculty Club

    John and I will be having lunch once a month at the Faculty Club, on January 24th, February 28th, and March 14th from 12 – 1 pm. We invite you to join us at our table for informal discussion during the lunch hour. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Senate Executive Assistant Kayla Gonzalez at krgonzalez@ucsd.edu. Participation is limited to 14 guests per lunch.

  2. Winter Discussion Forums with the Senate Chair and Vice Chair

    A series of four discussion forums in February and early March for Senate members. While the forums provide an opportunity for us to share updates on current Divisional Senate initiatives, the main goal is to provide a space to hear about issues of interest to the faculty. Each of the forums will focus on a different area of campus. We encourage you to attend the session scheduled for your discipline, but all Senate members are welcome to attend any of the sessions.

    The discussion forums will be held on Zoom. The schedule and registration links are below. The meeting link will be e-mailed to participants following registration.

    Tuesday, February 14th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Register
    Focus: Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences

    Tuesday, February 28th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Register 
    Focus: Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Management, Global Policy & Strategy

    Thursday, March 2nd, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Register
    Focus: Engineering, HDSI, Marine Sciences

    Tuesday, March 7th, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Register
    Focus: Health Sciences

    You are invited to submit questions before the event by e-mailing academicsenateoffice@ucsd.edu. This will give us an opportunity to best prepare but is, of course, not necessary.
