Parking and Commuter Services has adjusted parking allocations in the Hopkins, Scholars and South parking structures to improve the parking experience, increase predictability, and reduce vehicle circulation as commuters search for empty spaces in full parking areas. Changes will also significantly improve resident access to vehicles during nights and weekends when shuttle service is limited.
Hopkins Parking Structure: Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood construction has reduced residential demand in Hopkins, allowing Student Resident (SR) spaces to be decreased and Student Commuter (S) spaces to be increased and providing a new parking resource for commuter students.
Scholars Parking Structure: Heavy use of S parking spaces by residents has meant little turnover and frustration for commuters hoping to find the last available space. To align parking spot markings with actual use, Student Resident (SR) spaces have been increased and Student Commuter (S) spaces were removed. Additional commuter student parking can be found nearby at the Pangea parking structure. Commuter students will find all-day S availability in P702 and all-day reduced-cost parking availability in our discount lots and supersaver lots.
South Parking Structure: Significant residential parking needs from Rita Atkinson Hall, along with Eighth College and Revelle College displacement during Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood construction has resulted in heavy use of S parking spaces by residents and frustration for commuters hoping to find the last available space. To align parking spot markings with actual use, Student Resident (SR) spaces have been increased and Student Commuter (S) spaces were removed. Additional A spaces are also provided to mitigate displacement during Triton Center construction.
We look forward to the opening of the Theatre District Parking Structure in a couple months during Winter Quarter 2024, which will add 1,150 new parking stalls to the central campus (a 12% increase). This will significantly relieve parking pressure, and parking allocations for all Central Campus parking structures will be revisited at that time.
Available transit options
We encourage commuters to take transit whenever possible. Free or reduced-cost transit options are available through U-PASS. When you commute using transit or another lower-impact form of transportation, log your trips with Triton Commuter Club to earn incentives (like discounted parking for the days you really need to drive) and opportunities to win great prizes (like our quarterly e-bike giveaway). If you’re commuting by bike, scooter or skateboard, Parking and Commuter Services and Associated Students have partnered to provide free, high-quality helmets and discounted U-locks to improve the safety and security of your commute.
