After discussions with our staff, campus academic and staff leaders and the approval of Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla, the Office of Research Affairs has instituted a name change.
Our department is now the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI).
This change highlights UC San Diego’s groundbreaking research and innovation community, and it better aligns us with the University of California Office of the President’s Office of Research and Innovation. Our campus is already among the top institutions in the country for patents, startups and idea generation as we forge a path to becoming the most innovative transdisciplinary university in the country. We rank third in the nation for startup creation and we have our sights set ever higher.
We have a record number of faculty members filing disclosures and licenses and a soon-to-be-announced research center will further expand research in the service of commercial advancements, national security and refining an innovation-ready workforce.
Through this name change, we want to identify our office as a committed expert resource for UC San Diego researchers, fund managers and administrators in research policy, funding programs and the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
