In consultation with the Animal Program Oversight Committee, the Office of Research and Innovation and the Animal Care Program (ACP), have developed an updated per diem rate schedule that incorporates the rising costs of salaries, benefits and supplies.
The new rate structure is effective January 1, 2024, but researchers will not incur the budgeted increase until July 1, 2024.
All sponsored project proposal submissions from this date forward must use the new per diem schedule in constructing budgets for animal research. However, to mitigate the impact of this mid-cycle adjustment, per diem rate increases will be offset until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2024. This offset is possible with funds allocated from the Chancellor.
This per diem rate adjustment was necessary due to significant inflationary pressure on all materials and equipment as well as market equity requirements to fairly compensate and stabilize our dedicated animal care workforce.
Future rate adjustments will be re-evaluated annually, with new rates effective on July 1 each subsequent year. Consult the Per Diem Rates planning page for projection details.
