It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Shanda Hunt, JD, CHRC, as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research Compliance and Integrity, effective December 7, 2023.
Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt will provide leadership and guidance to facilitate responsible global excellence within our research and innovation community. RCI is responsible for providing broad oversight, resources and education for integrity and compliance issues relating to the conduct of research.
Reporting to Corinne Peek-Asa, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt will lead our ethics and compliance teams under a shared vision to maintain and grow one of the nation’s most innovative, pioneering and interdisciplinary research ecosystems.
She comes to UC San Diego from the University of California Office of the President. As the Systemwide Associate Director of Compliance at the University of California Office of the President, Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt oversees compliance programs in various regulatory areas for the world's largest public research university system.
A seasoned leader with 20 years of experience in legal, compliance, audit, and research administration, I am excited that Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt will lead through practical experience as an expert in research compliance standards and best practices.
She will provide leadership and guidance for an incredibly strong RCI team that is nationally well distinguished as compliance and integrity leaders. Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt will lead this impressive and dynamic team in our aim to inspire, train and retain future research compliance and integrity leaders.
She is both a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) and a Certified Healthcare Research Compliance Professional. She received her bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Native American Studies, as well as a juris doctorate from Berkeley Law.
Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt is a founding member of the UCOP Native American, Indigenous, and Pacific Islander Staff Association (NAIPISA) and an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. She currently lives in El Cerrito — xučyun (Huichin) Territory, unceded Ohlone Land, with her family. Hunt is married to a proud Triton alum.
Assistant Vice Chancellor Hunt is passionate about advancing the UC mission of excellence in teaching, research, and public service and ensuring ethical and compliant conduct across the UC system.
