Smoke and Tobacco Free Environment Policy Reminder

Since January 2, 2014, the University of California has been a smoke- and tobacco-free environment. Smoking (including vaping) of any substance, and use of tobacco or cannabis is not permitted in any indoor or outdoor space on university-controlled property. The UC San Diego Smoke and Tobacco Free Policy implements the UC systemwide policy; promotes health; keeps our environment free from cigarette litter; reduces waste from plastics, metals, and non-recyclable lithium batteries from e-cigarettes and vaporizers; and protects each other against secondhand smoke. Compliance with the Policy is grounded in informing and educating members of our community and visitors about the Policy and supporting those who smoke, and/or use nicotine, tobacco, cannabis, or other substances.

Support and Resources
UC San Diego offers support and resources for individuals looking to reduce or quit smoking, and/or the use of nicotine, tobacco, cannabis or other substances.
  • Students can sign-up for FREE Cessation Coaching with Health Promotion Services.
  • Campus faculty and staff and health team members can access resources and services through their health plan options or by contacting Kick It California, a free statewide service operated by UC San Diego.
Reporting
Violations by students may be submitted to the Center for Student Accountability, Growth, and Education (SAGE; formerly Office of Student Conduct) via their Incident Report Form. Violations by campus faculty and staff and health team members may be submitted via the Online Smokefree Non-Compliance Report form on the Smoke Free website.

Thank you for adhering to this policy and positively contributing to the health and well-being of all UC San Diego students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors. For more information, including a helpful Frequently Asked Questions page, please visit the UC San Diego Smoke Free website.
