Timely Warning – Arson

On November 5, 2023, at 5:38 p.m., the UC San Diego Police Department responded to a fire alarm at Mesa Nueva Housing. Upon arrival, officers found burnt material next to the trash chute and learned staff had extinguished a small fire. The next day, after further investigation, the fire was determined to be an arson.

There is no suspect information at this time.
The report is currently under investigation by the UC San Diego Police Department.

Report suspicious activity (including the use of open flame) on and around the open lands, hillsides, canyons and trails anywhere on campus or in the SIO area to the UC San Diego Police Department immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Call the UC San Diego Police Department if you become aware of someone talking about or planning an arson.
