Parking and Commuter Services has been advised that the opening date for the new Theatre District parking structure has shifted to late winter quarter. We recognize that the fall quarter deficit in Student Resident (SR) parking spaces was significant and with more than 800 new residents arriving in the Theatre District in early January, providing alternatives is important. As a result, we will be making changes and offering a new low-cost product for students who do not need their vehicles close to their living facility.
During winter break, we will make the following changes to better accommodate student residents and improve predictability for student commuters.
Parking Allocation Changes
- Pangea Parking Structure: Student Resident (SR) parking spaces will be expanded and Student Commuter (S) spaces will be relocated to P304 or removed.
- Parking Lot P304: A portion of the Student Commuter (S) parking that is displaced from the Pangea Parking Structure will be relocated to P304. B parking previously located at P304 will be moved into Pangea Parking Structure to align with existing B parking.
- Parking Lot P705: P705 will be redesignated as Student Resident Discount (SRD) parking. Regular overnight security patrols will be added for customer comfort and confidence.
Undergraduate Resident Permits and Pricing
SR permits will be subdivided into two types, one for students who need proximate parking and one for students who access their vehicles less frequently.
- SR: Valid in central campus SR and S parking spaces, with overflow option to P705
- SRD: Valid in lot P705 only
In recognition of the value differential between these two permits, the daily cost of the SR consecutive day permit will be $1/day more than it was during fall quarter, while the cost of the SRD permit will be $1/day less than the fall quarter SR consecutive day permit. This means that residents choosing to park at P705 will pay $60/month less than those parking on the central campus. Revenue from the SR permit price increase will partially offset the cost of supplemental security for the SRD parking lot at P705. Students who have already purchased SR permits for winter quarter will not face any pricing adjustments; however, they may elect to cancel their permits and move to the lower-cost SRD permit.
These changes will help students find parking faster, improve predictability and allocate resources to best addresses student needs. As a safety measure, the Student Community Service Program is available to accompany students to their vehicles.
