Statement on the Earthquakes in Syria and Turkey
UC San Diego and our campus community are deeply saddened by the staggering loss of life and widespread destruction due to the recent devastating earthquakes in Syria and Turkey. Heartbreaking images from the affected areas and news of the growing number of casualties can take an emotional toll. We share the grief of those impacted and stand ready to support our community in these times of need.
The news of these earthquakes compounds the sorrow and outrage our campus community continues to experience due to many recent tragic events. To support our campus community, UC San Diego has been and will continue to offer counseling, opportunities for open and candid dialogue and mental health support to our students, faculty and staff as they navigate their well-being.
Support Resources
Students are invited to join in community to process the recent earthquakes affecting Syria and Turkey and engage with others via a dedicated Community Support and Processing Space facilitated by CAPS clinicians on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. in the Career Services Center’s Horizon Room.
To seek counseling support, students are always encouraged to reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). CAPS provides free, confidential counseling and crisis services and community forums for registered UC San Diego students, and can be reached at (858) 534-3755.
As an institution, we actively work to cultivate an inclusive campus in which all community members feel a sense of safety, belonging and support. We encourage you to support one another and our Triton community as we grieve these unspeakable losses.
