Triton Addressing Initiative to Improve Campus Wayfinding and Emergency Operations
The UC San Diego main campus is shifting from using 9500 Gilman Drive as the only official address to adopt a more standardized addressing model, like what you’d find in a town or community of a similar size to our campus. The Triton Addressing Initiative aims to identify specific campus locations with individual addresses while maintaining overall campus unity, improve internal operations and processes, including emergency response, and help people find buildings and landmarks more easily by improving campus signage. Facilities Management began installing building addresses in December 2022 and anticipates completion in December 2024. See a list of addresses organized by districts. New campus addresses will align with San Diego County’s NextGen 911 technology to allow easier re-routing of 9-1-1 calls to a variety of first responders during disasters or emergencies to improve their ability to respond quickly with the appropriate resources. Facilities Services and Information Management published physical street addresses on the campus map in January 2023 and sent the new campus building addresses to Google, which is working on updating its maps. Resident students, staff and faculty should use building addresses for wayfinding purposes and use passenger loading zones for ride-hailing trips.
Shipping Addresses
To ensure accurate, timely and environmentally responsible delivery of shipments and services to campus locations, continue to use the preferred addressing guidelines that Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS) prescribes. Following the appropriate shipping address protocol will route packages through UC San Diego's central receiving and distribution center, allowing IPPS Logistics teams to optimize delivery service and to provide detailed last-mile tracking data via the Logistics Portal (SSO/VPN). For contracting services, continue to use the direct address in Oracle to ensure that suppliers have an accurate location for work to be performed.
