MTS Access, Minibus, and South Bay Service Disruptions

The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is currently experiencing service impacts for Access, minibus, and South Bay service that may continue throughout the week. Trolley service is unaffected. For more information, please see the message from MTS included below.

If your regular transit service is disrupted, please consider using one of the free park and rides lots on MTS’s trolley system. If driving to campus is necessary, there is ample parking available in P704/P705 and Triton Transit is increasing peak period service levels on the Regents Shuttle to help commuters connect to Central Campus locations.
Josh Kavanagh
Executive Director, Triton Auxiliary Programs and Services
Good afternoon,
As you may have heard, some employees of First Transit conducted a work stoppage beginning this morning. First Transit operates minibus and Access service on behalf of MTS, so there was likely interruption to MTS routes serving your institutions. Most of the following routes did not operate or had very limited service today: Routes 14, 18, 25, 83, 84, 833, 838, 944, 945, 945A, 964, 965, 985, and the Sorrento Valley COASTER Connection (Routes 972, 973, 974, 978, 979).
Additionally, bus service operated by MTS’ South Bay Division contractor, Transdev, was also impacted by a work stoppage. South Bay Division operates 40% of MTS bus service, so there was substantial disruption to the following routes (in addition to those above): Routes 1, 3, 5, 27, 28, 35, 225, 701, 704, 705, 707, 709, 712, 901, 904, 905/905C, 906, 907, 909, 916, 917, 923, 929, 932, 933, 934, 950, 955, 961, 962, 963, 967, 968, and 992. First Transit/Transdev will continue to fill as many trips as possible with qualified providers and drivers while the work stoppage is in effect.
Both divisions are operating as much service as possible with available staff. But we do expect that these work stoppage events will continue tomorrow (Thursday, April 27). We are asking passengers on the routes listed above to expect limited service or no service on these routes and make alternate plans if possible. Other routes not listed above are not affected, nor is Trolley service affected.
Passengers can check the MTS Alerts & Detours webpage for updates and most accurate service information. Passengers can also contact MTS Information & Trip Planning for trip planning assistance at 619-233-3004, or use the online trip planner at sdmts.com/trip-planner. MTS Access riders can contact at 888-517-9627 or visit sdmts.com/work-stoppage for recommended alternative transportation options.

Thank you,
