UC San Diego’s Earth Month Celebration, April 2023 | |
UC San Diego has been shaped by exceptional scholars who challenge expectations to make our world better, including pioneers of climate change research like Roger Revelle and geochemist Charles David Keeling of the “Keeling Curve.” For the eighth consecutive year, UC San Diego will join communities around the world in celebrating Earth Month with multiple events designed to educate and engage the community.

- Paint and Plant Party
Wednesday, April 5, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Sustainability Resource Center Kick-off Earth Month by painting a pot, planting a seed and learning about campus sustainability.
- Earth Plaza Palooza
Mondays (April 10, 17, 24) from noon - 2 p.m. at the Sustainability Resource Center UC San Diego Sustainability’s annual fair will feature several organizations, DIY activities, games and prizes.
- Sustainable Food Expo
Tuesday, April 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Price Center East Ballroom Celebrate Earth Month and learn more about climate-friendly food systems at our tenth Sustainable Food Expo, featuring live chef demos, local sustainable restaurants, bakeries, food producers and farms
- Green Talks Art Contest Crafty Hours
Tuesday, April 11, 6 - 8 p.m. and Wednesday, April 12, 6 - 8 p.m. at the UC San Diego Craft Center Transform recycled materials into an art object that represents your commitment to sustainability, then enter your creation into the Green Talks Art Contest for a chance to win $75 worth of sustainable art supplies.
- Climate Conversations Camping Trip
Saturday, April 15 to Sunday April 16 at Anza Borrego State Park Come explore a slot canyon, an intriguing oasis of palms in the desert and the evidence of a gigantic ancient lake and starry skies on this trip guided by UC San Diego Outback Adventures, the Sustainability Ambassadors and Scripps Professor Emeritus Jeff Severinghaus. - Changemaker Student Org Fair
Tuesday, April 18, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Library Walk The Center for Student Involvement and the Changemaker Institute present the 2nd Annual Changemaker Student Organization Fair showcasing student groups who are making active, positive change in the community and beyond.
- Green Buildings Town Hall
Tuesday April 18, noon - 1 p.m., virtual Join us for this all-campus town hall highlighting the university’s commitment to the design and construction of a sustainable environment through the use of environmentally responsible processes and resources throughout a building's life-cycle. - Trees of the Snake Path Tour
Wednesday, April 26, noon - 1 p.m., at the head of the Snake Path Explore the trees along the Stuart Collection’s Snake Path just outside Geisel Library, and learn how trees make UC San Diego a vibrant place to work and learn. Walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.
- Eighth Annual Green Talks
Thursday, April 27, 4:30 - 7 p.m., at the Price Center Theater This annual TED Talk-style conference aims to engage the UC San Diego student body and community about sustainability and promote the importance of being environmentally conscious through one’s actions.
- Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting
Friday, April 28, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. In recognition of Earth Day and Arbor Day, UC San Diego volunteers will learn about and plant trees. This year’s location will be announced in the Earth Month Calendar.

In order to allow employees the opportunity to participate in a UC San Diego Earth Month activity, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved. We encourage all managers and supervisors to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
