Project: 5301 Viterbi Family Vision Research Center
Project Purpose
The 100,000-square-foot Viterbi Family Vision Research Center is currently under construction. It will establish a new building on the UC San Diego La Jolla Medical Center campus focused on ophthalmologic disease research and interdisciplinary collaborations. The project includes dry and wet lab research space as well as administrative and conference space.
Work, Location and Duration
As part of the Viterbi Family Vision Research Center construction project, UC San Diego Health has scheduled nighttime utility work which will result in the closure of the road on weeknights beginning Monday, May 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for approximately four weeks. The nighttime closure is on Medical Center Drive near Shiley Eye Institute, just before the intersection with Campus Point Drive in La Jolla. See a map of the affected area.
Immediate Effects: Parking Lot, Street Traffic and Pedestrians
- The detour will be clearly marked with lighted signage, and flag personnel will direct traffic at the work site. (Ambulance companies and law enforcement are aware of the evening detourfrom Regents Road to the Emergency Room)
- All vehicular traffic exiting lot P760 or the Athena parking structure will be able to exit the medical center using Medical Center Drive or Health Sciences Drive.
- There will also be temporary sidewalk closures and pedestrian detours around the work area.
For everyone's safety, please adhere to traffic control signage directions and flag persons' instructions while traveling through the area.
