Please join us in congratulating Lisa Eyler, professor of psychiatry and director of the Sanford Institute’s Center for Empathy and Compassion in Medical Education at UC San Diego, for being honored by YWCA San Diego County with the Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) Award, which recognizes extraordinary achievements of women in managerial, executive or leadership roles.
In addition to her teaching and role as director of the Sanford Institute’s Center for Empathy and Compassion Training in Medical Education, she is also director of the Mental Health in Aging Unit of the Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. Lisa is an investigator on federally-funded research projects on aging and mental illness, designs and implements medical student curriculum to enhance and preserve compassion, and mentors students at all levels of training.
For more than a decade, Lisa has led the Department of Psychiatry’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Council and developed and disseminated several EDI workshops locally, nationally, and internationally. She serves on the UC San Diego Women in Health Sciences planning committee and leads the Health Sciences EDI Ambassador group. In addition, she is an alumni advisor for the Chi Omega chapter at UC San Diego, is a Girl Scout troop leader and leads the Clairemont Coalition on Homelessness.
Each year the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) seeks nominations of women to be considered for the YWCA Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) Award. Since 1981, CSW has alternated nominating UC San Diego faculty/academics and staff women for the award. To learn more about the TWIN award and to view a list of past recipients, visit the UC San Diego TWIN Award Recipients webpage. Please also consider faculty/academics for nomination for the 2024 TWIN Award.
Lisa and other colleagues throughout the San Diego area will be honored at a citywide ceremony later this month. Please join us in applauding Lisa’s dedication, service and leadership.
