On 05/02/2023 the UC San Diego Police Department received a report of a robbery that occurred on the Central Campus Trolley platform. The incident occurred this morning at 11:00 a.m. but was not reported until 4:30 p.m. to the UC San Diego Police Department. The victim stated a male subject attacked him as he exited the trolley. The suspect swung his arms, striking the victim in the face and causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then took the victim’s micro-mobility scooter, exited the trolley platform, and fled the area eastbound toward the Matthews Apartments.
The suspect is described as a male, 35-40 years old, 5’8 in height, medium build, black hair, brown eyes, and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. The suspect was also described as having an abscess over his right eyebrow. There is no further description on the suspect.

- Believe the robber if they say they have a gun, knife or other weapon.
- Try to maintain a calm demeanor. Don’t make sudden moves or try to apprehend the suspect yourself. Concentrate on remembering a description of the suspect and when safe to do so, call or text the police immediately at 9-1-1.
- Assess the situation. Remember every situation is different; you are the only one who can decide the appropriate course of action.

To help reduce the risk of being the victim of a robbery:
- Report suspicious activity immediately to the UC San Diego Police Department by calling or texting 9-1-1.
- Think ahead. Thinking about your options ahead of time and discussing them with others may help you make quick decisions under difficult circumstances.
- Use the UC San Diego Safety Escort Program. Call (858) 534-WALK, available daily from dusk to dawn.
- Whenever possible, travel well-lit, busy routes. Avoid walking or parking in shadowed areas. Have your keys in your hand as you approach your door. Avoid displaying and carrying large sums of money in public. Only carry the credit cards you need.
- Be careful with purses or wallets. Carry a purse close to your body, but do not loop or wrap straps around you. A purse snatcher could injure you. Keep wallets in an inside pocket.
- When using an ATM, have your ATM card ready and in your hand as you approach the ATM. Be careful that no one can see you entering your pin and do not count or visually display any money you received from the ATM.
- Know the location of Campus Emergency Telephones on routes to and from campus destinations.
