CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Triton Center Start of Construction

Project Purpose:
Triton Center will provide expanded and centralized support for students at the heart of the UC San Diego campus. Four new buildings include a new Student Health and Well-Being Building, Student Academic Resources Building, Alumni and Welcome Center and a Multi-Purpose Building with a 500-person event space and art gallery. The project also includes public realm improvements and accessible parking.
Location and Duration:
The project site is between Rupertus Way & Russell Lane and Rupertus Walk & Gilman Drive and will encompass UC Buildings 201, 202, 301, 302, 303, 400, 401 & 965. Construction will begin June 19, 2023, with completion targeted for Winter 2026.
Immediate Impacts:
  • Construction vehicles will use Gilman Drive and Russell Lane resulting in minor delays for pedestrians and vehicles.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of Gilman Drive between Russell Lane and Myers Lane will be closed to pedestrians. Pedestrians heading east/west will need to use the sidewalk on the south side of Gilman Drive crossing at Russell Lane or Library Walk.
  • Rupertus Walk, Rupertus Way and Myers Drive north of Gilman Drive will be closed for the duration of the project. The sidewalk north of Rupertus Walk will be open to pedestrians to provide east-west access.
  • The intersection at Myers Drive and Gilman Drive will be modified to allow east-west traffic only. Left turn lanes and north-south pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be closed. The north side of the Gilman Transit Hub will be temporarily relocated to the west, along Gilman Drive at Library Walk, near Center Hall.
  • Parking lots P411, P408, P410 and P412 will be closed during construction. Lot P407 will have extended disruptions during construction.
Please observe all temporary traffic controls and crewmember instructions. Please reduce speeds and allow extra space when traveling adjacent to construction activity. See maps of the affected area.
If you have any questions, please contact Project Manager Brad Phipps (bphipps@ucsd.edu) at (858) 228-6741. We greatly appreciate your patience during these construction activities.
