Project Purpose:
Construction of the Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood began on January 4, 2020 and will continue through Winter 2024. This multi-use project will include five buildings ranging in height from 9 to 21 stories and provide approximately 2,000 new beds for undergraduate students, residential life and administrative offices for a new undergraduate college, Eighth College. The project will also include flexible classrooms, a market hall, convenience retailers, an enhanced valet/drop-off area for the adjacent Theatre District, improvements to Ridge Walk and parking for approximately 1,200 cars (325 net new spaces).
Location and Duration:
Revelle College Dr. and Theatre District Dr. from North Torrey Pines Rd. to Mandell Weiss Ln., from July 5, 2023 through September 13, 2023.
Immediate Impacts:
- The Revelle College Dr. entrance to the campus will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic at North Torrey Pines Rd. from July 5th, 2023 through September 13th, 2023.
- Additionally, Revelle College Dr. and Theatre District Dr. will be closed to vehicular traffic from North Torrey Pines Rd. to Mandell Weiss Ln.
- Vehicular traffic will be detoured onto La Jolla Village Dr. and North Torrey Pines Rd.
- A bike and pedestrian detour will be in place through the Theatre District area.
- Access to Che Café, the Central Utility Plant Expansion Project and La Jolla Playhouse (via Mandell Weiss Ln.) will remain accessible at all times.
- The UC San Diego Outside Loop (OL) shuttle stop on Theatre District Dr. will be temporarily relocated onto North Torrey Pines Rd. near Revelle College Drive.
- La Jolla Playhouse shuttle service and La Jolla Playhouse summer programs will have a modified drop off/pick up location.
Please observe all temporary traffic controls and crewmember instructions. Please reduce speeds and allow extra space when traveling adjacent to construction activity. See map of the affected area.
