Project Purpose:
The Shiley Eye Institute Renovations project will convert the vacated second-floor from research and office space to clinical space, including exam rooms, imaging areas, utility rooms, and clinical support rooms. In addition to the second-floor renovation, the project scope includes upgrades to building infrastructure and modifications to improve accessibility and path of travel to meet current building codes. The project scope also includes the repair of existing water intrusion problems, as well as a minimal architectural refresh of the building exterior.
Location and Duration:
- This work effort will establish a fence line in the landscaped area west of the building, as well as the small parking lot (P757) on the east side of the building. This small parking lot (P757) will be closed after 7/28/23 until project completion.
- Make-ready construction efforts are targeted to being in mid/late July with larger construction activities commencing in September of 2023.
- Parking Lot P760 will remain unaffected by this project.
Immediate Impacts: Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrians
- The northeast Shiley entrance/exit will be unavailable during this construction project.
- A new Surgery patient pick-up area will be established on Medical Center Dr, using the decommissioned bus stop on Medical Center Drive.
- Additional (30 minute) parking stalls will be allocated on the bottom floor of the Athena Parking Structure for surgery patient drop-off/pick-up.
- All other current construction activities are anticipated to occur within the building or site staging area.
