LIVE - Application Process for Research Relief Funding Now Open

The application process to request Research Relief Funding is now open. The fund was established to mitigate budget shortfalls on existing research grants due to new salary ranges in the UAW contracts for Academic Researchers, Postdoctoral Scholars, and Graduate Student Researchers.
The $10M Research Relief Fund from the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors is meant to cover salary increases that cannot be covered at the PI, Department, School or Unit level.
The online Research Relief Fund application will remain open until all funds are expended or through June 2025 (whichever comes first).
Please do not use this online application tool, if you are submitting for faculty in schools or departments within Health Sciences (Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Pharmacy).
Additional guidance will be disseminated for Health Sciences with instructions on how to document your UAW contract impacts and request financial support by Friday, July 28.
All others should submit an online Research Relief Fund application. Note that you can initiate and save a draft of the application in process without submitting. This unfinished draft can then be found in the Drafts folder of the My Documents section of Kuali Build.
As we recognize this is an evolving process, we will answer questions that arise as soon as we can do so.
We are opening the application at this time so those with grants soon to finish or particularly urgent and time-sensitive needs can apply even as details are being finalized. Applications will be reviewed first at the school level and then at the Vice Chancellor level. School-level review will begin August 14.
Review the information available at Relief Fund Application and Instructions now to prepare the documents required for the Research Relief Fund application. Additional procedural information will be shared when available, but all applicants will need to:
  • Determine the differential between budgeted and required compensation for UAW-represented personnel;
  • Identify contributions from the PI (through reallocation of grant budgets where possible, and use of discretionary funds where available)
  • Identify what funding gap contributions applicable departments can make.
If you have questions or concerns related to the fund, email inquiries to researchrelief@ucsd.edu.
