Project Purpose
The Viterbi Family Vision Research Center Project is currently under construction and will establish a new building on UC San Diego Health’s La Jolla campus. The center will provide new space for research on various ophthalmologic diseases as well as expand interdisciplinary collaborations across campus and the San Diego community to accelerate the pace of discovery and innovation for vision research.
Location and Duration
- This work effort will impact the Medical Center Drive / Campus Point Drive intersection for approximately 4 weeks.
- While construction work is planned to occur at night to minimize operational impacts, please anticipate a new traffic pattern at the intersection throughout the entire duration of this work effort (day and night).
- Work is targeted to begin the first week of September.
Immediate Effects: Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrians
- Vehicular movements through the Medical Center Drive / Campus Point Drive intersection will be available in all directions, except for westbound traffic.
- A preferred detour route will be established from Genesee Ave to Health Sciences Dr to reduce traffic through the intersection. This detour will not be required for any vehicles bound for the Emergency Department or the Thornton Hospital Drop-off Loop.
- All vehicular traffic heading to the Emergency Department or Thornton Hospital drop-off loop from Regents Road will be detoured along Athena Circle, Medical Center Drive South, and to Medical Center Drive (detour signage will be in place).
- A minor pedestrian detour will be required at the east side of the Medical Center Drive / Campus Point Drive intersection to ensure pedestrian safety.
For everyone's safety, please adhere to traffic control signage directions and flag personnel instructions while traveling through the area. See a map of the affected area.
