Request to Participate in Survey for Administrative Review of University Librarian Erik Mitchell

Dear Graduate Student,

We have been appointed as a committee by Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons to conduct a review, in accordance with university policy, of Erik Mitchell’s performance in his administrative role as University Librarian. This includes performance in the following areas:

Strengthening the quality and accessibility of the collections of the UC San Diego Libraries and University of California Libraries;
Fostering development of new campuswide, systemwide, or national initiatives related to the availability of knowledge, including research cyberinfrastructure, data curation, and open access to research and educational materials;
Contributions to short and long-range planning for technology-enhanced instruction and supporting infrastructure;
Management of personnel, space and financial resources, including strategic planning and reorganization by the UC San Diego Libraries;
Long-range planning for services, staffing, automation, and physical facilities;
Acquisition of external resources, including fundraising;
Contributions to university strategic priorities, including efforts to enhance the diversity of the campus, the quality of the student experience, and inclusive access to knowledge;
Efforts to promote an environment in which the highest standards of ethical conduct are understood to be a primary responsibility of all members of the University Libraries.
