We’re under a week away from the start of Triton Weeks of Welcome (TWOW), our campus-wide series of introductory activities, special programs, and signature events at the start of each academic year – designed to engage, inform, and welcome all students to the Triton community. TWOW enhances the student experience at UC San Diego, as it supports a sense of belonging, social connection, and introduces students to programs and services designed to enhance their learning and development.
This year, TWOW programming will take place from Sept. 7 - Oct. 10, 2023.
Many of the traditions that make Triton Weeks of Welcome special have been a part of the new student experience at UC San Diego for decades, while others reflect our community’s continued evolution and innovation. This year, TWOW welcomes Eighth College as it hosts its first TWOW programs, and many TWOW programs this year will include student-dependent-friendly options for new Tritons with children and families.
TWOW consists of:
- New Undergraduate and Graduate Student Orientations;
- Residential Move-In;
- Welcome events: Convocation, Triton UnOlympics, Fall Y’all Festival, and more;
- Graduate and Undergraduate Student Resource Fairs; and
- Programs promoting Tritons’ health and well-being
Please visit the TWOW website at TWOW.ucsd.edu for a complete listing of activities and programs.
Volunteers Needed During TWOW
There are several opportunities for UC San Diego staff and faculty to volunteer during TWOW, including:
Residential Move-In Weekend: Sept. 20–24
Volunteers are needed to ensure that our incoming students have a safe, comfortable, and smooth transition into their lives at UC San Diego. Shifts may include: assisting with move-in carts, check-in/out, and assisting students/families with wayfinding. 2- or 4-hour shifts areavailable from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Revelle and Eighth Colleges.
TWOW Ambassadors: Sept. 25–29
We are seeking students, staff, and faculty volunteers as “TWOW Ambassadors” to roam high-traffic areas on campus, answering student questions and assisting with wayfinding for our new Tritons. Shifts will take place from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Library Walk and Ridgewalk.
New Student Welcome Convocation: Sept. 26
Convocation marks the formal academic welcome for our incoming students into UC San Diego’s scholarly community. Volunteer shifts (event setup/wayfinding, ushering/seat assistance, and recession/post-event assistance) will take place between 1 - 6 p.m. on RIMAC Field.
Campus Transportation Impacts
With thousands of new Tritons arriving on campus and participating in large-scale events during TWOW, there will be minor impacts to transportation and parking on the west side of campus – especially during the weekend of Sept. 23-24 and on Tuesday, Sept. 26. If you are able, please connect with your supervisor to discuss remote work possibilities on these dates.
Scholars Drive - Sept. 23-24
During Move-In Weekend on Sept. 23-24, Scholars Drive South will become a one-way road for northbound only traffic beginning at the intersection of Scholars Drive South and Scholars Lane, then ending at the intersection of Scholars Drive South and Exploration Lane.
Scholars Drive North will become a one-way road for southbound only traffic between the intersections of Scholars Drive North and North Point Drive and Scholars Drive North and Pangea Drive.
Hopkins Drive - Sept. 24 and 26
During the Fall Y’all Festival on Sunday, Sept. 24, Hopkins Drive will be closed to all traffic in both directions between Northpoint Drive after the North Information Booth through to the Supercomputer Center from 5 p.m. through 11:59 p.m.
Due to the construction of event infrastructure for Convocation on Tuesday, Sept. 26, Hopkins Drive will be closed to all traffic in both directions between Northpoint Drive after the North Information Booth through to the Supercomputer Center from 1:30 – 8:30 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you as the UC San Diego welcomes its newest Tritons during TWOW.
Sincerely,
