Throughout the month of October, all students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in a variety of events in observance of Latinx Heritage Month. This annual month of events aims to showcase the diversity of Latinx people, as well as highlight the complexities and intersectionalities of Latinx culture.
Latinx Heritage Month events take place on campus and throughout the San Diego community, offering an array of unique experiences for staff, students and faculty to learn about Latinx heritage and contributions as well as build community. The events are organized by the Chicanx/Latinx Staff Association (C/LSA) in partnership with the Latinx Academic Excellence Initiative (LAEI) and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) workgroups. To view a full calendar of events, please visit the Latinx Heritage Month website.
This year’s theme is “Todos Somos, Somos Uno: We Are All, We Are One,” which celebrates the diversity, strength and unity within the Latinx community. Our commemoration event will feature Kat Lazo, award-winning Colombian-Peruvian director, producer and host. Live entertainment will be provided by the San Diego World Beat Center.
In recognition of Latinx Heritage Month, two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego Latinx Heritage Month activity. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
On behalf of the campus community, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the members of the UC San Diego Latinx Heritage Month planning committee for their work coordinating these educational and celebratory campus activities.
