Welcome back, Tritons! Did you know that as a current UC San Diego student, you have unlimited access to regional MTS and NCTD mass transit bus and trolley/light rail routes during the fall, winter and spring academic quarters via U-Pass?
Triton U-Pass is valid on all MTS and NCTD bus and trolley service except:
- NCTD: Coaster Train, FLEX and LIFT
- MTS: Rural Routes (888, 891, 892 and 894), Rapid Express Routes (280 and 290) and MTS Access
New Tritons
Download the PRONTO app via the Apple or Google Play app stores to access your U-Pass. Watch this instructional video to learn more about activating your U-Pass in the PRONTO app. Additionally, check out our website for specific instructions on how to create and link your account.
PRONTO cards are available for students that don’t carry a smartphone; however, you are not allowed to have both PRONTO app pass and physical PRONTO card active at the same time; you must choose one fare media.
If you are unable to use the PRONTO mobile app, visit the Gilman Service Center to get a PRONTO card. Here, we will assist you to create your PRONTO mobile account and to link your physical PRONTO card. You will need access to your @ucsd.edu email at the time of account creation to complete this process.
Returning Tritons
Returning UC San Diego students can automatically access their U-Pass in the PRONTO app, starting on September 15th, 2023 - no action is required.
Eligibility
All current undergraduate and graduate students who have paid quarterly registration fees are eligible for U-Pass. UC San Diego Extension students and visiting scholars are not eligible for the program.
Make the Most of Your U-PASS
You can earn incentives for choosing transit and other lower impact modes for your commute through Triton Commuter Club but U-Pass isn’t just for going to class. We hope you’ll take transit to explore all that the San Diego region has to offer.
We thank you for choosing a sustainable mode of transportation and welcome your questions and comments regarding U-Pass. Please contact iride@ucsd.edu with any inquiries or troubleshooting concerns about the program.
