Since November 2020, Triton Transit has operated the Hillcrest Express shuttle to connect Hillcrest Medical Center employees to alternate parking at the Old Town Transit Center as a mitigation measure during construction of the First Avenue Parking Structure and McGrath Outpatient Pavilion. With the planned opening of the First Avenue Parking Structure to Hillcrest Medical Center staff parking in late March, this service will no longer be needed; the last day of Hillcrest Express operations will be March 22, 2024. We appreciate the partnership funding from UC San Diego Health and Old Town Transit Center stop access from MTS that made this temporary service possible.
Individuals who want to continue to take transit between the Hillcrest campus and the Old Town Transit Center can take MTS Route 10, which runs every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. To plan your trip, use the Route 10 interactive schedule and map or PDF with daily timetables. Exit the bus at the “Washington St. and Albatross St.” stop and walk three blocks to the Hillcrest Medical Center. Employees who do not already have transit passes can try transit for free with the FaSt Pass; students have fare-free transit access through U-Pass.
If you want to save money on parking and gas, form a carpool with friends or start a SANDAG vanpool and receive $500-$600 per month in federal subsidies. Visit our carpool page for details. If you are walking, biking or working from home, make your alternative commutes count! Register with Triton Commuter Club to earn points for discount parking and enter to win monthly and quarterly prizes.
