We are pleased to announce the appointment of Al Pisano in a dual role as Special Adviser to the Chancellor for Campus Strategic Initiatives and as Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering for a five-year term, effective January 1, 2024.
Dean Pisano previously announced his intent to retire from UC San Diego, but as a result of ongoing strategic planning discussions with leadership over winter break, he agreed to extend his tenure to build upon the strong momentum of our top-ranked Jacobs School of Engineering and foster cross-campus special initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration to further propel UC San Diego’s overarching strategic goals. Pisano’s appointment as special adviser and continued appointment as dean will best position both the Jacobs School of Engineering and UC San Diego for ongoing future success, and we are delighted that he has accepted this dual role.
We congratulate Dean Pisano on his expanded role and recognize his continued commitment to lead the Jacobs School of Engineering.
