Introducing the Secure Connect Program

As members of the UC San Diego community, we are all responsible for safeguarding the information we produce as well as the access to that information.

With that in mind, all locations across the UC system are working together to strengthen cybersecurity protections.

A Systemwide Call to Action

Earlier this year, UC President Drake called on every UC location to meet a minimum list of security outcomes in order to improve the UC cybersecurity posture systemwide. These requirements, which are due to be in place by the end of May 2025, necessitate every member of the UC system to engage in cybersecurity efforts.

As UC San Diego’s response in this effort, we are introducing the Secure Connect program.

The mandate from President Drake builds on our existing security measures to address compelling and critical security concerns, in the constantly evolving cybersecurity landscape. We recognize that its implementation requires real and significant considerations regarding personal privacy, issues of shared governance and balancing technological needs of our research and teaching mission. While we work on ways to best resolve these diverse interests, we are committed to working with all parties to develop policies that are transparent and respect the range of needs and interests at UC San Diego.

UC San Diego’s Secure Connect program is a joint effort ofIT Services, theCybersecurity Operations Group (CSOG), departmental IT staff, andHealth Information Services, with oversight by the Faculty Steering Committee and the Cybersecurity Governance Committee.

Over the coming months, you will be receiving information about the program, the educational efforts, and actions to take to maintain the security of university systems.

Steps for Success

As the first step in this joint effort we ask that everyone continues to stay current with the mandatory UC Cybersecurity Awareness Fundamentals Training. This introductory course will allow us to come together as a community and build shared understanding of best practices to assure a safer digital environment for all of us.

Thank you for doing your part in protecting UC San Diego and the UC community.
