As part of the ongoing Geisel Library HVAC Renewal Project, Geisel will be closed all day on Monday, October 14, 2024. To support the campus community during this closure, WongAvery Library will have extended hours from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The following day, October 15, Geisel’s 4th floor will close temporarily for approximately 10 weeks.
Why the Closure?
The closure is necessary to facilitate critical work in the ongoing upgrade to Geisel's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. This multi-year project, initiated in 2021 by Campus Facilities Management and funded by the state of California, will modernize the HVAC system on Floors 1-8, improving temperature and humidity control for a more comfortable environment.
Project Timeline
Floors 4-8 will be closed sequentially, one at a time, for approximately 10 weeks per floor through December 2025 (subject to change). We do not anticipate having to close Floors 1 or 2 during this project. The closure of floors 5, 6, 7, and 8, along with limited one-day building closures, will be announced at lib.ucsd.edu/hvac-renewal and on our social media channels.
