Update on Strategic Plan Refresh for The Next Decade |
Last year, UC San Diego embarked on a collaborative, university-wide effort to refresh our long-term strategic plan. With input from faculty, staff and students representing nearly all areas of campus, academic disciplines and health specialties, we challenged ourselves to look ahead to the next decade and beyond. We have spent the last several months synthesizing and reviewing your bold, creative contributions to this process to further shape our plan framework.
This fall, we will begin to socialize the refreshed strategies and priorities that will guide the next phase of UC San Diego’s transformation and growth. These strategies are grounded in our mission to transform California and a diverse society through education, generating and disseminating knowledge and creative works, providing high-quality health care and engaging in public service.
These strategies and priorities will be underpinned by our deeply held Principles of Community, commitment to our shared values, inclusivity and vision to be a destination public university that is student centered, research driven, patient dedicated and service oriented.
|
The refreshed long-term strategic plan is shaped by seven distinct yet interrelated goals that were announced earlier this year, along with six research themes that have been revised and updated to reflect the input of many across campus over the past several months. Our goals will enable us to push boundaries in everything we do and anticipate and address the most pressing challenges facing our world today. Our goals serve as a framework that enables us to prioritize and focus on those areas that can and will deliver the most impact for our students, faculty, staff, and regional and global communities. They are:
|
- Student experience
- High-impact research
- Health care excellence
- Diversity and access
- People and purpose
- Community partnership
- Sustainable infrastructure
|
Together with our colleagues and community, we identified 14 strategies, many of which were contributed by you, that represent the “how” – or ways – we will commit to achieving our long-term goals. I am pleased to give you a preview of these strategies as we move into the final stage of developing our strategic plan. In the months ahead, we will be incorporating specific programs and initiatives that complement these strategies.
|
- Student-facing support
- Educational innovation
- Integrated education
- Sense of belonging
- Research infrastructure
- Faculty and staff development
- Graduate education
- Administrative renewal
- Operational alignment
- Community-engaged problem solving
- Health and well-being
- Arts
- Green campus
- Campus activation
|
These clear goals and strategies will enable us to collaborate more effectively across disciplines and areas of expertise; increase success in expanding access to education and professional development; and provide a road map for how we continue to evolve as a globally recognized public university developing a future workforce equipped to thrive and change the world.
