We are pleased to announce the appointment of Marianne Liu Beckett as the next Assistant Vice Chancellor - Academic Personnel, effective January 7, 2025.
Reporting to Robert E. Continetti, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, AVC Beckett will manage the overall academic personnel services program for UC San Diego. In this role, she will administer policy for all academic personnel and act as the key advisor to the organization's senior administration on all academic personnel and program matters. She will also serve as the UC San Diego campus representative for academic personnel issues to the University of California Office of the President and play an active role in representing campus interests.
Assistant Vice Chancellor Beckett comes to UC San Diego from UC Irvine where she was in the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel. She is a seasoned academic leader with more than 20 years of experience including extensive experience in academic personnel administration, faculty and employee relations, academic labor relations, risk management and policy compliance, as well as training and development.
In the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel at UC Irvine, she provided leadership, expertise, and secured initial funding to work with colleagues in developing a comprehensive systemwide academic personnel training program for academic administrators and academic personnel support staff in the UC system, culminating in the first inaugural UC systemwide Academic Personnel Academy in February 2024, in partnership with the UC Office of the President.
AVC Beckett’s collaborative and effective leadership, openness to innovation, as well as her extensive experience in academic personnel administration make her exceptionally well suited for this key leadership position and advancing the university’s strategic mission.
