We are pleased to announce the reappointment of Cristina Della Coletta as dean of the School of Arts and Humanities following an enthusiastically positive administrative review and the review committee’s recommendation of reappointment.
The review committee praised her dedication to the student experience, research excellence and community engagement. Dean Della Coletta has also led instrumental cross-disciplinary collaboration with other units on campus, including the Institute for Practical Ethics featuring two co-directors (one from Arts and Humanities, one from Social Sciences); interdisciplinary programs such as Science Studies, and Black Diaspora and African American Studies, and the various area studies programs housed in the Institute of Arts and Humanities.
Additionally, her work includes overseeing the creation of the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts, the very first Arts and Humanities Strategic Plan for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, building pathways for local community college students to transfer to UC San Diego with successful preparation, creating the inaugural Faculty Mentorship Program and advancing inclusive faculty hiring.
As dean, she also holds the Chancellor's Associates Chair in Italian Literature. Please join us in recognizing Dean Della Coletta’s many contributions and her service to UC San Diego. We look forward to her continued visionary leadership and commitment to the School of Arts and Humanities and the greater UC San Diego community.
