General Campus Compensation Plan Trial – Extension Year 7, Phase 2
| |
I
am pleased to announce the continuation of the General Campus Compensation Plan (GCCP) Trial. Year 7 of the Phase 2 extension period will begin on July 1, 2024. The program is still under system-wide review for conversion to policy in future years.
This trial program, currently in use at UC San Diego, UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCR, and UCSC, was developed in partnership with the UC San Diego and the system-wide Academic Senate. Like the well-established Health Sciences Compensation Plan, it allows faculty to utilize external fund sources to
support a portion of their total UC salary.
Eligibility is limited to Ladder Rank, Teaching Professors (LPSOE/LSOEs), and In-Residence faculty who meet good standing (e.g., all training current,
APM 025 annual report submitted, not in a disciplinary process, etc.) and program requirements. Faculty who wish to negotiate an additional salary component utilizing their own external fund sources generated by research, teaching, or outreach activities are required to submit an annual proposal. General funds, including startup, cannot be substituted
for external funds to pay the negotiated portion of the salary. Faculty
members who were approved for a relief of teaching during the 2024-25 academic year through the COVID Career Support Program (CCSP) award are not eligible to apply for GCCP for 2024-25.
We expect that faculty applying for GCCP will work closely with their department fund managers to budget their resources based on increased labor costs related to the UAW contracts. As a reminder, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education and support remain an essential part of the UC mission and participation in the GCCP program does not reduce the University’s commitment to these essential commitments. Therefore, when considering your available resources and your proposal to apply for GCCP, your first priority for external funding should be continued support of the research enterprise and graduate education.
Faculty
with approved GCCP proposals will be compensated at the total UC salary
rate for the period of July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025; the total UC
salary rate will be comprised of the negotiated component plus the faculty member’s base salary (scale rate plus any approved off-scale salary increment). Summer ninths will be paid at the total UC salary rate according to standard summer salary policies.
School deans will soon issue a call for 2024-2025 GCCP proposals. Eligible faculty who wish to participate will be required to submit a proposal that must be endorsed by the department chair and dean and approved by the Executive Vice Chancellor. All applications must be submitted using the new form on the Kuali Build application.
