Google Workspace at UC San Diego in 2024
Over the past year, IT Services and local IT teams have worked with faculty, staff and students in response to Google’s discontinuation of free and unlimited storage with Google Workspace. The deadline imposed by Google for the campus to get under our pooled storage allotment is June 30, 2024.
As a result of voluntary efforts by the community, 80% of our storage remediation is complete! Individual quotas have been implemented on 99% of faculty and staff and 96% of students. This is good progress and we appreciate everyone’s efforts in getting us this far.
Next Steps:
Quotas on remaining accounts take effect March 12, 2024.
We are reaching out directly to account holders who are over quota to help them reduce their storage, find alternatives, or provide options for purchasing additional Google storage.
We understand this transition may be challenging and are committed to working with you to address any issues and develop solutions. For additional information, please visit our Faculty & Staff FAQ on Blink. If you have questions or want guidance, we are here to help. Contact the Service Desk and we will assist.
Managing Storage
Google Workspace MyDrive and Shared Drive accounts will need to remain under quota or purchase additional storage. You can find more information on tracking/managing your Google storage and purchasing additional storage on the Google Workspace Transition Blink page.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as UC San Diego and the broader academic community continues to adapt to these changes.
Sincerely,
