Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the call for Summer 2025 Global Seminars. The Academic Senate approved the Global Seminar program as a permanent study abroad offering for UC San Diego during fall 2009 after a two-year pilot period. The Global Seminar program offers the opportunity to teach two four-unit courses in an international or US location during summer session, with the benefit of full logistical support through Study Abroad, UC San Diego. According to Academic Senate policy, voting members of the UC San Diego Academic Senate, including ladder rank faculty, LSOE, LPSOE as well as Continuing Unit 18 Lecturers with 18 quarters of teaching experience at UC San Diego, are eligible to teach Global Seminars.
More than 100 seminars have been taught abroad by UC San Diego faculty since the Global Seminars program began in Summer 2008. Planning is well underway for up to 26 Global Seminars in 21 locations during Summer 2024 (Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Bern, Dublin, Edinburgh, Galapagos, Granada, Guanacaste, London, Madrid, Paris, Quito, Rome, Santa Cruz, San Juan, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, Wellington). Of course, safety is our highest priority. Global Initiatives is carefully monitoring the global risk management situation and will cancel Global Seminars if it is deemed unsafe to proceed.
Study Abroad UC San Diego plans to offer another compelling selection of seminars in summer 2025. Detailed program information and an application may be found in the “Teach a Global Seminar” section at the Study Abroad UC San Diego website: https://studyabroad.ucsd.edu/faculty/global-seminars.html.

Together with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Global Initiatives Tamara Cunningham, as well as Matthew Herbst and Alison Wishard Guerra (Faculty Co-Directors of Study Abroad UC San Diego), we invite you to submit a proposal to lead a Global Seminar in summer 2025.
A committee will review proposals with an aim to offer students a range of destinations, disciplines, and costs. Proposals received by April 15, 2024, will be considered for the Summer 2025 program.
Questions are always welcome. Please contact Jim Galvin at: jgalvin@ucsd.edu. He can also connect you with faculty who have taught a Global Seminar previously.
